Bill & Mary Starns Bill and Mary Starns have been raising exotic birds on their bird ranch in Southern Oregon for the last 9 years. We moved here from Southern California, where we had raised birds in the "big city".

Bill first became interested in birds when he worked for a large breeder and pet shop at the age of 15. The owners, Bob Busenbark and Hank Bates, had written several books on psittacines and softbills. One of their books was called "Parrots and Related Birds" and is still in print. Bill bought his first cockatoo, a Moluccan, when he was in his early 20's. He has had parrots ever since.

He wholesaled birds to 3 of the major chain stores for several years until they went out of pets. Bill met Mary in 1979. She was also interested in birds and had a pet Red Headed Amazon called Captain. The relationship blossomed from there and they have been married since 1983.

Mary has a Masters Degree in Medical Technology ( Laboratory ) and a Bachelors in Microbiology. She is our "Laboratory Technologist on staff..
